It's two flights of stairs to reach the session space; a private practice room with a door. A HEPA Filter will be running at all times, practitioners will be masked, and fresh sheets/clean tools will be used in applicable sessions. Our Mission
At Sonar, we aim to support your access to embodied wellbeing. We strive to increase opportunities for wellness in response to structural oppression within healthcare. We aim to prioritize people of color, queer people, and those facing financial barriers to care. We join many other groups of thought leaders and healthcare practitioners working to create equitable access to healthcare.Whatever reason you have for seeking out a session, we are honored you'd consider us to support you.Who We Are
We are a healing collective of individuals who practice a variety of massage and traditional medicinal practices. We're here for long-term healing and not just a quick fix. As much as bodywork can address immediate concerns, this is also preventative care. Bodywork tends to our physical, emotional, and mental health all at once - that's part of the magic! We're interested in being aware of how we engage with our bodies, emotions, spirit, and mind over time and across seasons. There is so much information that our bodies share throughout our lives that can aid us in tending to our health. Why Are We Called Sonar?
Sonar allows for the extrasensory perception of space in ways that our eyes cannot perceive. As bodyworkers, we do the same thing by utilizing our intuition and medical knowledge to access deeper levels of muscle or spirit. We knew we needed a nature-based name to honor the way our healing practices invoke and are supported by the elements of Earth <3
Gua Sha
Gua sha is a traditional healing practice in which a practitioner uses a smooth-edged tool and herbal oil to stroke the skin. You will lie on a massage table while a practitioner works on your body (mostly back and chest). The aim of gua sha is to help relieve joint and muscle pain by removing inflammation, breaking up scar tissue, improve range of motion, and increase circulation. It is also energy work in that it works with the body's energetic pathways.
Thai Massage
Thai massage is a form of therapeutic touch that differs in many ways from traditional massage. Instead of a massage table, you lie on a mat on the floor while the provider utilizes passive stretches, pressure point work, and compression to increase blood circulation, decrease inflammation, facilitate myo-facial release, and provide mental-physical relaxation. It is also energy work in that it works with the body's energetic pathways.
